After33 years Bobby Glenn Harris from Mission, Texas was returned to rest
among his brothers and sisters September 3, 2004 in the Ft. Gibson
National Cemetery in FT. Gibson, Oklahoma. Staff Sergeant Harris was
killed near Snuol, Cambodia March 17, 1971 when the helicopter he was
crewing as door gunner was hit by enemy fire. The pilot, WO1 James H.
Hestand survived the crash only to be captured and spend 2 years as a POW
before being released February 12, 1973. The other crew CW2 Richard L.
Bauman and SP4 Craig M. Dix were alive and still evading the enemy when
WO1 Hestand was captured. We do not know their fate but continue to ask
Washington to do more to resolve POW-MIA issues. Let us never rest until
they are all accounted for and returned.

Bikers from all
over Oklahoma, western Arkansas, and at least one from Arizona, my brother
Sid, made up a 200+ escort from Checotah to Ft. Gibson to pay last
respects. A burial detail from Ft. Sill assisted with the service. James
Hestand was also present to speak and pay respect. It warms my heart to
know the motorcycle community contains so many caring people that would
take their time to show support for a brother they did not know personally
but still cared about. I know this was a comfort to the Harris family. I
have asked for a picture of Sgt. Harris to be delivered to the Viet Nam
Veterans National Memorial in Angle Fire, NM for placement in the album
containing the pictures of our fallen brothers and sisters. My next ride
to Angle Fire and THE WALL will be in memory of Sgt. Harris. I hope all
who read this will make an effort to meet Rolling Thunder Operation
Carry The Flame in El Reno or wherever we pass near you next May and
show support for POW-MIA issues. In the mean time you can write or call
your congressman in Washington and ask that he or she increase their
support for efforts to return our brothers and sisters.
With Respect,
George (aka) Homey
