8th Annual Desert Rose Chili Cook Off
February 2, 2008

A Report From the Webwench

What a beautiful day to get out of the house and out of the city as we head out to Arlington, AZ to the Desert Rose Bar for the Annul Chili Lovers Run and Chili Cook off. Nothing better than a little breeze, cool temps and plenty of blue sky.

We arrived early just as the T.M.F (Too Much Fun) Social Club was busy heating chili, marking entries and getting ready for the judging. Outside many a vendor was on hand if you wanted to shop. The band was busy setting up and doing sound checks.

The turnout was the biggest ever and the lines were long but moved fast. There were some pretty good entries in the Chili competition. Not sure whose I tried but it lit me on fire…good all the same. I am happy to report no heartburn so it was all good. There were also brats, hot dogs and hamburgers for those not wanting to brave the mystery chili tasting.

It was now time for the awards and proud chili chefs took center stage to receive their trophies. Coastin and myself also received a plaque for CycleQuest.com for our Sidecar Newsletter and for getting the word out on this run. Last year 'Chili Mama' told us the event had grown this big over the last seven years because of us but this year they had a lot of support from the local community which is outstanding. Seeing the turnout, the success of the event and the money raised for the various charities over the years has always been our biggest reward. We do thank the T.M.F. for recognizing and supporting our efforts.

At this event we also celebrate the eighth anniversary of CycleQuest.com. We have seen many changes over the years in the riding community. We are ever changing, as are the events. This is one event that as it grows never loses its charm or integrity and the venue just gets better and better. The Desert Rose Chili Run has a special place in our hearts, and as long as there’s a Chili Run out there…we'll be there!
